Just a random observation or two....
March 28th 2004, 10:17 CEST by UncleJeet

In order for you to be more intelligent and skilled than most people, that has to mean that most people are less intelligent and skilled than you are.  So it must be that the majority of the world is made up of stupid people.  So the likelyhood of the upper percentile of humanity gathering in one place without clear reason isn't too high.  The problem is, I see post after post at the 'crap where people are talking about the "masses" or the "majority" of people in the sense that they are idiots and beneath the levels of the poster.

I just find it odd that so many brilliant and successful people have found each other together in such an unlikely place as a website on the internet that supposedly talks about games, and is called Planetcrap.

Clearly, the level of users at the 'crap is well above your standard message board.  That much is obvious.  And every so often, it's revealed that Person X really is as talented as he claims to be.  So it must be that Planetcrap is mostly comprised of the cream of the intellectual crop from societies around the world.

Or, it could be that the level of intelligence and skill is the same as can be found at any other gathering of people but that the rules and accepted norms of behavior at the 'Crap funnel people into interesting and thoughtfull discussion, whereas the G4 message board are filled with 0wn@g3! and jibes at each others' mothers.

The final possibility is that, for the most part, no one is really any smarter than most anyone else.  That we're probably all just as much a part of the "masses" and the "majority" of people as all of the so-called stupid people out there that are beneath us.  It's just that they're likely talking in some other message board dedicated to their interests about how stupid their masses are compared to them.  In other words, we are the idiots' idiots just as much as they are ours.

On a more serious note. As was noted here a few days ago, it's not so much that everyone here is a FUCKING GENIOUS as everybody here has their own unique specialization. And the combined knowledge of PlanetCrap posters consists of everything known by man.

I think most of the posters are idiots, you ever notice how whenever somebody has a question that's really hard it's always some lurker that skulks from the shadows to provide an answer? The true genius lies in observation.

I've seen very few message boards that are catered to someone other than techbrains, or people who work in the technology industry (IT, programming, etc.) and youth of the 13-21 crowd.  But it seems to me, that Internet messageboards naturally draw adults that are more common sensical and thoughtful.

The many people here, when faced with an interesting topical discussion, will actively go and research a topic if they don't know anything about it.  Such is the case over at QT3.  Perhaps its just that these are messag boards focused around people who use critical thinking for a living, or maybe its just some magical endowment of thoughtfulness that enters a person's mind when they touch technology.

It just seems like everyone else who tries to discuss an issue simply feeds back the news headlines from CNN or MSNBC and thinks they know The Real Scoop of a topical story.

I'm not sure they'll make the playoffs, but James has exceeded my expectations.

Interestingly enough, I'm not sure the Nuggets, who seemed like a lock 3 months ago, will make the playoffs either.

Although, to be fair, we should really get a map and the night before to memorize it if we're going to mimic a third grade test.

46/48 on first try. They don't give you a whole lot of time. It gave me flashbacks to a memorize the states game I used to play on my IBM PCjr. Of course the hard version of that game didn't have geo-political borders on the map, and you only got one try.
