Second Worse Topic Ever
December 19th 2003, 22:36 CET by DEATH KILLER INTERNATIONAL (INTERGALACTIC DIVISION

I was surfing past GroceryGateway.com and I saw this:

Egg Nog - 1 Litre - 69 cents
2% Partly Skimmed Milk - 4L Bag - $3.39
Windshield Washer Fluid - 4L Jug - $1.86

Anyone else see something odd here? I did a little more searching around their site, and sure enough, the trend seems to persist across other liquid products.  Some liquids are cheaper than other liquids, with windshield washer being the cheapest (per litre) of them all.  What the fuck is going on here?  Should I attempt to save money this holiday season by replacing eggnog with washer fluid?

This reminds me of that Bloom County strip about the price of post-shortage gasoline, where a man was so enthused about the fact that gasoline was cheaper by the gallon than water, milk, etc. that he considered choosing gasoline to supply all of his liquid product needs.

Yet, that is a bug because all you need is a valid email address to create an account, that means someone with not so good things in mind can vote topics like this one in.

In Canada, you can get milk by the bag. Not so common anymore, but it is possible.

Whole milk is 4% fat. 2% milk has half the fat skimmed off. 1% has 3/4ths of the fat skimmed off. Skim milk has all of the fat skimmed off.

Jibble, there's a local dairy that used to sell milk in a bag. I think they've switched over to gallon jugs.

Free-form LARP (live action role-playing) goes mainstream. Sort of. Or I guess it is more like Reality TV meets corporate retreats.

In any case, does this have a future? Should it? How much would you pay to play this game? For those deriding the game-form itself, I will admit that some types of LARP are more extreme than others, but ultimately how different is it really from Laser Tag or Paintball?

I'm shocked that 2% milk only has half the fat removed.

Of course, not as shocked that anyone outside of third-world refugee shanty town would buy milk in a bag.  Admittedly, I'm not the most observant man.  In fact, I'm quite the dullard.  So, while I have travelled Europe, Asia and South America I could definitely miss that someone was selling milk in a bag but still...

Do you pour from the bag?  Does it have a spout?  Why a bag?  It seems even an edible carafe made out of tortilla chip would work better than a bag.

A bag...jesus...

You just clip a corner of the bag and pour, then twist-tie it when not in use. They usually slide into a sturdy plastic half-jug thing. As to why people would drink from a plastic bag over a cardboard carton, I've no fucking clue. Environmental, somehow? Still, better than what they had in China. Cardboard bags of milk.

I can see it becoming more and more popular with the corporate entities trying to team-build in a way that isn't completely boring.  I could also potentially see it as an alternative to team-based group events like paintball.  I'm really not certain how many people play paintball as a once-in-a-lifetime thing, or little more often than that, but I could see this in the same vein

I don't see it as a social maelstrom, redefining how people have fun on vacations or anything.
