Xmas 2014: Now with more X!
December 9th 2014, 22:11 CET by Chunkstyle

It's the greatest season of all: football season!  And also Christmas, the greatest portion of the greatest season!  So, what do you want?  What do you think you'll get?  What are you giving?  Are you wearing any ugly sweaters non-ironically? What's your favorite Christmas song?  Should I ask more questions?

Think I'm finally getting the complete Monty Python box set.

Sex Tape is an absolute disaster of a movie, it must be written by someone with no clue whatsoever of movie making. The (attempt at) plot is actively grating and disjointed, and the humor flat and lifeless.

Premonition is an enjoyable movie, it's nice with scifi that focuses on character relations. I'm not so fond of how it hides information juuust out of view of the camera though, it feels like a contrived storytelling device IMO. Ultimately the story ends up requiring so much suspension of disbelief that it's tough to stay invested in it, but y'know, it's an enjoyable enough movie to sit through nonetheless.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Whatever is a disaster of a movie along every measurable axis.

The Maze Runner is a surprisingly enjoyable young-adult movie, it sports a simple scifi setup and nice-looking visuals and is straight to the point. It loses itself towards the end but for the most part it's just this nice romp, and teenagers eating it in various ways just never gets old. There's an overall plot that's as dumb as those Hunger Games movies, but it doesn't get too much screen time.

Steam Sale!

Or as it should be called, Steam Sale Fatigue. Flash sales 12 hours (as opposed to 8) and 1 vote a day (as opposed to 3). Probably for the best. Prime steam sale was probably 3 years ago or so.

So we're past peak Steam Sale? Time to stock up on canned goods and start shooting people.

With Dragon Age Inquisition taking up all of my team, I'm not excited about the Steam Sale... Maybe I'm broken?

I'm submerged in 7 Days To Die and right now there are no other video games as far as I'm concerned.

A fair point. Maybe one day.

The Equaliser is a totally enjoyable action romp. Eh it's a silly movie in many ways, but it manages to portray a sense of urgency and brutality that makes it fun to watch.

The Anomaly is so dumb.

The Guard is absolutely hilarious black comedy, in a uniquely Irish way. I had to pause it (on account of the plane landing) and have yet to finish the last bit, but it's been nothing but totally and utterly enjoyable so far. Highly recommended.

Loved The Equalizer right until the very last scene in Russia. Was fantastic right until then. Unbelievable at points sure, but it was fun and interesting. 'Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish.' One my favorite movies ever.

Treefrog, can you explain that? I'm curious to learn how it reads like self-loathing. I just half-heartedly replied to avoid explaining further and you were just joking I know, I'm just asking out of curiosity as it'd be interesting to learn how it reads. I don't quite see it myself.

A fair point on the russian scene. I guess that thread needes tidying up but it was a bit forced.

It reminds me of In The Blood, Man on Fire, Taken, and Non-Stop. It's a delightful new wave of modern action movies that mixes just a bit of serious suspense and semi-believable high stakes. It tickles my fancy every time.

Rather than release unlimited joy with the purchase of a cheap mouse, you take the Stoic/Calvinist path of self-denial and touchpad use. It's either the pursuit of enlightenment through self-denial of earthly pleasures or you secretly hate yourself. Like I said, either way you are our gaggle, for better or worse.

Y'all see Interstellar? Shit was awesome.

Thanks frog :) Yeah, I'm wondering if it's okay not to be able to play games for a bit, so I can focus on being productive. I often feel guilty when I relax too much.. I guess you're more right about me than I thought!

Merry Christmas!

For the first time ever my Mom didn't host Christmas dinner, but my brother and his wife did. Good time, but it's a long day.

Got an xbone from my wife for first Christmas (last weekend). From second Christmas I got a new coffee maker (woo!) and a 12" saute pan, and some kitchen odds and ends.

I got money (that I asked for - them D7100s don't come cheap), a gym voucher (that I badly need to make use of, but fuck if I know how to find the time), and a pair of AKG earbuds (which are a fucking revelation after a decade of $10 "meh, it's gonna break anyway" shits...)

I'm in love with my Sennheisers. I've always used decent ear buds, but this is the first time I've had a good pair of cans. Hearing things I didn't even know were in the songs.

My next purchase will be a USB DAC and headphone amp for my PC.
