BF1942 for Xbox canned.

BF1942 for Xbox Cancelled. EA refuses to support LIVE, and now cancels a game that seems destined for LIVE.

Allegedly the reason for cancellation was so that the devs could work on the expansion pack. Meh...

A little biased, but worth voting in. What does this say about the perceived value of Xbox Live by one of the industry's major publishers?

What is this saying?  That the game would suck with the XBox controller?  Could be, rabbit, could be.

I'm most likely talking outta my ass here, but possibly MS laughed till they cried when they got the release candidate submission and told DICE to fuck off. The load times alone would earn them a re-submission. And EA balked at ponying up the cash for 6 months of optimization.

*shrug*

I don't know.

Didn't EA have issues with Live from the begining? I mean are any EA games functioning online with the X-Box? I'm sure it's more about control and money, EA probably wants to run their own online service and MS probably doesn't want to let them, so neither is playing nice with the other.

She has a 286, Windows Millenium Edition, 2 gig.  I think that is all I really need to go on, right?

Isn't this an EA game?  And hasn't EA pledged to not support LIVE unless they were given a cut of the income that they found acceptable?  So why is this a surprize?

What does this say about the perceived value of Xbox Live by one of the industry's major publishers?

I don't know, what does it say? They own pogo.com, what ounce of credibility do they have in gauging the likelihood of an online service's success?

the only platform EA cares about is the PS2, they've wanted xbox to fail from day one.  gamecube doesn't really figure into their thinking at all.

if EA had their way, there would only be one console (and thus, only a single ubermarket) and they'd make all their games for that.  they chose sides long ago and in poo-pooing xbox and xbox live they're merely trying to root for their home team.

i wouldn't be too sad, like most FPS battlefield would play dismally on a console controller.

Great game, great game, great game.

Man vs Beast on Fox. If this show doesn't get us a sub-Sapient rating from the "Allaince of Gray Aliens that Govern the Milky Way Galaxy" I don't know what will. I'll be expecting the Relativistic missiles that will depopultate the globe about ten years after some Superpredator species sees this broadcast.

I'm agreeing with mgns. Given the state that BF1942 was released in, with memory leaks galore, they probably just couldn't fit all the game into the X-Box's memory. Most of the levels are over 30MB in size, some over 40MB.

They'd have had to do a major overhaul of the game to make it run on console. You won't see it on the xbox... but you won't be seeing it on the PS2 either.

the point I was trying to make was ... ea won't support live, so gamespy wins by default. AGAIN.

score one for the boys in green, who succeed not because they make good choices, but because everyone else makes lousy ones.

surfas is a jerk who enjoys being a jerk ... and dammit, he keeps winning. someday he'll make the wrong move and it'll be all over, and shaithis will have to find another source of baby flesh to munch on because surfas doesn't ever have a plan B beyond "fire everyone and start over."

Someone's bitter.

The only place that LIVE and GSI cross is where you use the GSI tunnel to system link games over the internet. And that's only because there's an Xbox and a network involved.

live loses out on a cool game. the only place to play it is gamespy arcade. arcade numbers go through the roof. gamespy, the only game in town, signs both ea and microsoft to deals for their developer tools. microsoft buys gamespy to get its tech and its audience into xbox 2. chris gets all the babies he can eat.

The load times on GTA: Vice City are fucking atrocious. I haven't tried GTA3 on the PS2, but the PC version runs like greased owlshit. Fast frames and fast loading.

This is the first I had heard of a console port for BF1942 at all. Maybe if the developers had a lot more money and experience, they could shoehorn that beast onto a television, but... Christ, why? The reasons not to, seem extensive.
