Where is the love?
November 13th 2001, 02:40 CET by m0nty

The game website industry needs a good dose of PlanetHappy right about now. After the ego-fuelled implosion of SlowNewsDay (which has already been bashed to death in the previous thread), Billy "Wicked" Wilson has resurrected his career after parting company with Voodoo Extreme, with a new site called Gaming Groove.

This post was attributed to Wicked on the discussion boards:

Our team will kick the shit out of any burned out team. Just a matter of time. I know how Pie works. It's a beautiful thing. With lawyers breathing down their necks, with them having to fly to Utah to defend themselves, adn with some of their news posters having to do the same for slander, it's all beautiful. things couldn't have worked out better. Now people know why I kept my trap shut, while the other dumb dumbs on other sites slammed and slammed, now they will pay the p-p-p-price :)

Lots of pictures of fluffy bunnies and rainbows are required. Why can't everyone just play nicely, instead of hitting each other over the head with rants and lawyers? Perhaps we should all follow the example of GeekGirl and get hyped up on tranqs - she seems to be the only one who is enjoying games at the moment.

Games are good again my friend.......... or maybe it's the blue pill?

If he got fucked over, he SHOULD go after them.  I don't know if he did or not ... but Billy started VE.  He WAS VE for the longest time.  Now there's not a trace of him to be found on that site.  That's not right.

Spicy lawsuit goodness!

Baliff: You honor, next on the docket is William Wilson vs. VE3D.com

Judge: Prosecution?

Billy: Billy "Wicked" Wilson, ma'am, your hoochie-honor. I'll be representin' in this case. I'll also be my own lawyer.

Judge: Mr. Wicked-Wilson, your case is that VE3D.com illegally obtained your intellectual property?

Billy: That is 100% f'n right. Like Ron Jeremy in the dark of night. Semi-colon close parentheses.

Judge: Case dismissed, you obviously have no brain with which to store intellectual property.

Billy: Noooo! Now how will I pay for Momma Spice's new double-wide???

Billy sold VE a long time ago as far as I know, so he was in a risky position, and like all websites, and people who work them, probably involved in money issues of one sort or another, be it being paid, or paying someone etc.

Lots of turmoil, and lots more to come since it seems every time a site falls on it's knife, it spawns many more which will only be dealing with more of whatever it was that ailed the previous site.

Big bad world out there.

Heheh.  Funny stuff.  :)

Should I be afraid of "Unable to obtain IHTMLDocument2 interface in WebBrowser::clear()." when I press the quote button?  Everything seems to work cept the preview window is blank, and I have to close the Error window.

WTF is up with Billy and the VE crew. I noticed he was AWOL from VE a while back and I just stopped going there. Now VE has been toasted (honey roasted?) off the net, and Billy is firing up a new site in hopes of getting enough jack together for a triple-wide.

What did I miss, and where can I read the ho slappin, midget pimpin details?

Obviously you guys didn't see what Billy was originally posting.  Here are a couple of craptastic screenshots - http://www.invisibledream.com/gaminggroove/ .. Billy is a total flake now.  He might as well join up at GameSpy, I'm sure Mark 'TheFreshmaker' Surfas would love to have another clone of himself around.  Anyways, with Gaming Groove, I left the post of co-founder / 2nd in command a couple weeks back.  If you guys could have heard some of the things coming out of Billy's mouth - I mean, it was rediculous.  On top it off, he let Turner design the site like a fortress, not even Billy has FTP access.  Turner owns everything site wide from the web server to the domain names.  It's only a matter of time before they go at eachothers throats and Billy gets fired from another website.

Anyways, here's a thread on VE that you all may find interesting - http://www.ve3d.com/comments.taf?postID=22662 .. Yes, that was Turner posting as 2000 Proxies.  I'll go ahead and leave those two screenshots up on ID for the next few hours, after that I'm taking them down so save them locally if you'd like.  For once, you can see a part of Billy's real personality publically.  Usually he would only get like that in private.  Anyways I need to get back to my Ghost Recon review - talk to you all later.

Hey, that's all games are is CRAP. The people who make them are CRAP. Geniuses, yes, as far as graphics, computers, etc. But they're full of petty hate, backstabbing, insults, and then turn around and rip off the consumer with shit like Daikatana, Blue Shift, and Wheel of Time. What do you expect to come of it all? CRAP.

1. You suck.
2. No, you suck.
3. Hey, I have ICQ logs of people sucking.
4. Losers, all of you, I have the true story of who sucked.
5. I can't believe people get paid to sit around and suck. This is why the web is dying.
6. Never mind, I have a new, indie website. It will rule.
7. My site has blown up large. It's kind of a headache. This sucks.
8. Ah, I have a corporate partner now. They will host me, and I will rule.
9. Hey, some corporate bastards just took over my website and shut me out. They suck.
9a. Hey, all my buddies who used to rule with me now suck. I can't work with these people. I should tell all the other sites how much they suck.
10. Goto 1.

Have you looked at IHTMLDocument vs. IHTMLDocument2? They provide different things, so falling back on one from the other doesn't make any sense. The problem is when exactly does the WebBrowser component make IHTMLDocument2 available? On some setups, the ones having problems, the control has to be made visible before it is available. This kind of messes with the internal logic of OpenCrap because it was never an issue on my development machine and I was not aware of the problem until later. This used to be a major problem for some people (the program wouldn't run), but I have caught most of those. This looks like another case of it cropping up, but fortunately not quite as fatal.

Oddly you may have been right.

Yep, we're back baby!  After an on-going legal battle (which, I hate to brag, but is going better than I could have ever expected for us), taking back a certain name, taking control of an old URL, and just getting this bad boy going,
taken from here

Still nothing on the slander or why exactly they'd have any case to take back that certain name at all.

Man that's some harsh stuff.

What is also interesting is last I saw Voodooextreme.com was still controlled by UGO's DNS servers and hasnt been pointed to the new IPs.

I wonder if Billy is raising enough hell to prevent that domain from being pointed over. That would be a nasty hit on VE.

Hi Gabe,

More info.  I'll put this into the bug tracker tomorrow, but here's the scoop so far.  If I press the quote button, I get the error message I mentioned just as it is about to populate the preview window. If I ignore the error dialog, and just post something, then after that, close the error prompt, opencrap falls completely to the ground with an access violation @ 0x77c71aff.

On the other hand, if I dismiss the error message clicking ok right away, the preview window gets populated and all continues as if nothing happened.

For the record, this is a fresh installed Win2K box with IE 5.00.2920.0000 (I need to upgrade it still), and I used the link on the open crap page to update my MSXLM libraries.

Warren and Shaithis... I feel your pain. I worked on Midgard3D for Blood 2 after the lead map maker from the first project (I think there's a Wilson in his name, god I forget everything) liked what I did with the original Midgard level (basically, I made it '3D' using the BUILD engine, not a bug-free task to do multiple levels using that engine; I can explain it in more detail if anyone wants). Anyways, they rejected the map saying it was not complete, but I still got my name in the ending credits (yay, a whole 15 people saw it). Here's where I get mad: INCOMPLETE?!?!?! THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME WAS INCOMPLETE!!! One shot from a gun doesn't BLOW SOMEBODY UP. Goddamn, that game had so much cool promise, but it was rushed in... get this... 8 months. They didn't get a quarter of the game on that disc, and what they got on there wasn't done. Eventually one of the 3D modelers told me that it was a project that was going to fund everything else Monolith did after that... that's why they spent so little money and time on it (money = time, yada yada). I just HAD to get that off my chest.

I might as well make this relevant. GamingGroove looks exactly like VE, except less complete. It's funny how he puts all that copyright legal bullshit on the bottom of the page, yet it looks exactly like his previous page. If I was gonna go on a business venture, I'd at least try to break the mold. If he wants to show up his previous buddies from VE, he needs something new, something different, something that doesn't look exactly like what he did before.

Peace.

"Oh God! You're insulting the Wheel of Time! I worked on that game! How can I go on living?!"

I'm surprised you have lived this long. At least Romero has some Doom laurels to rest on, but your game sucked so bad I played it and then returned it for a FULL EXCHANGE! That way, I played it and got a new game at the same time. So instead of dumping your piss down my back for cash, I saved it all in a fig leaf and poured it into your coffee. How's that for eye for an eye?

I mean heck, if you're going to target a Jordan-type audience then at least do Jordan some credit and don't turn his experience into bloated cow seepage. THat fucking game was hideous...I had more fun with Daikatana than that shit, which is why I'm wondering why you're still around. Hell, Romero's next project will be Hyperspace Delivery Boy for the Timex Ironman Sports Watch, and after "unleashing' WoT on the public, I'd expect you to be installing urinals in office complexes. Maybe you can do the laser-ass-aiming so when we're finished wiping the bodagets off our assrims, you can judge the laser distance and actually have the toilet flush down all the shit! It's quite amazing, and since basically that's exactly what happened to the money for your WoT game - it was "flushed", so to speak - you've already got something you can put on your resume.

So buck up and get going! The world awaits!  HAHAHAHAHAHAAHliaJlskaj/AHH

Eh, I have no real shame about working on the mission pack. I made good cash for it, and it bought me a digital camera I still use to this day. No complaints, though I'm sorry the pack never saw the light of day.

Altho in regards to texturing, working on that pack set me back several steps, and made me overly reliant on big plastic-y bevels for a long time... something I've finally gotten back out of the habit of doing. :P
