The Future of Planetcrap's Message Board
January 7th 2012, 08:01 CET by Charles

With Quarter to Three in the process of becoming a forum that no one can post on at all (with a current 1/15th of the posts belonging to banned users), is this finally Planetcrap's chance to regain the spotlight? Will the site revive? WILL MORN COME BACK?

Probably not.

I don't know about AP, but The Saboteur was a game of basically combining "OMG, not Nazis again" and "OMG, not another overly restrictive GTA clone again" and still managed to end up being reasonably fun. And once you finally got to the Eiffel tower... yeah, that moment was almost on par with entering the Lakeview Hotel in SH2 or seeing Area 51 in DX for the first time, in terms of emotional impact.

I think Saboteur and Just Cause 2 are the only games I've gotten 1000/1000 gamerscore on.  I think I actually 100%'d Saboteur.  Even though it was fairly simple and repetitive, I never got tired of findings stuff and figuring out how to destroy it.

One of my favourite things was taking over an AA gun, using it to blow up all the other targets in the area, shoot down a few Zeppelins, and then drop C4 on it and run before the Nazis climbed up.  If they had had dynamically regenerating targets and generals, I might never have stopped playing.

While I'm not trying to take your enjoyment of the game away from you, I think respawning (I mean in a broad sense - replenishing enemy's resources without any predictable simulation behind it that could be reviewed by player) sucks the fun out of a lot of things.

Sure, I don't mind if I turn my car around in Retro City Rampage and suddenly there are civilians where was an empty space 2 seconds earlier; but with high-profile targets I'm afraid it would create a feeling that I'm just manipulated by a video game into running around in a rat wheel.

When the amount of goals is limited, player is less likely to get overwhelmed, because getting feedback on your progress is an important part of having fun. Action - consequence. If the player feels like (regardless of the real game mechanics) that he can never really win, there's less motivation to try a little harder and "finish the last few bastards".

True enough.  I'm still playing Port Royale 3, but if there weren't achievements to work toward I might have lost interest already.  Goals are what differentiates games from toys.

Good point. Maybe that's what actually differentiated Minecraft, that people indeed felt like they're toying with LEGO¬ģ instead of playing a "video game", with all the negative connotation that phrase carries?

After the 15 year wait time for PC7.0 can someone confirm it's still in development?

I don't know what happened to the rest of you while I was caving in quasi-exile, but I can certainly confirm that the development has certainly been ongoing as of this date. I have, of course, been planning on coming back and surprise stress-testing this joint out for many, many time cycles.

sincerely impressed with what I have seen. Much love and grand applause from teh jafd. Take me to... the patent volcano!

So: hats. Is it possible for a man who is balding to wear a hat without looking like a prick? If so, what kind of a hat?

Is not possible. Hat silly.

But in all seriousness, why try to hide it? Shave the rest of the sucker off (Headblade, Headblade!) and wear your shiny dome like a badge of honour.

The shaving is a given, I just considered protecting my gigantic head from the elements might be wise. And, to be honest, I fancied rocking a hat.

TreeFrog: apparently the going knowledge among my baldened uncles is that if you decide to wear headwear of any kind, you'll soon be unable to go outside without it.

A fedora, or something like that? Never. You may picture yourself as Indiana Jones or Don Draper, but you will not look cool. A baseball hat is probably okay. Straw hat if you're on the beach. But yeah, get used to going without, you don't want your hat to be a crutch, and it'll look better if your head color roughly matches the rest of your face.

I occasionally wear a fedora.  I'm 40, I stopped caring if people think I look like a douche long ago.  It protects my head from the sun and unlike a ballcap doesn't make me feel like I'm trying to be fifteen years old.

Headbla... oh, I was beat to it.

I wear a selection of hats, from Kangol Ventair in the summer, to Trilby style Fedora with top coats or wool beanies in the winter and ball caps the rest of the time. You only look douchey if you try to wear them incorrectly - ie. the ventair backwards Sam Jackson style, or the ball cap to the side, etc...

9/19, Earthfriends. A little over a week later, and it is practically like I've never ever left.

Thank me later. Could anyone tell me why there was no PC 9/11 2013 event? Did it get canceled? Was it even not conceived of? This is a serious question. It goes from Morn, to... well, I don't know. All I heard was Choyo

Well, you know what, I sure do wish I hadn't had to be the one to die in a shallow rock grave. On the bright side, I have instant access to everything posted in every other topic, including jafd's.

Oh, thank you! You're welcome. Hey, Gabe, check it out, I don't have any relationship-organizational problems!

It isn't that you had a secret one, on the darknet, did you? Well, I suppose no one could tell me... and, why is that, again? There's some kind of

Soooo, Fallout 4? After finding out that it uses the same Gamebryo engine they've been using since before Oblivion, I can't stay far enough away. Apparently it's another Bethesda bugfest anyway.

Fallout 4 is pretty fantastic. I bought it on the One so my wife would be able to watch and potentially play (she is about 5+ hours in now addicted and to world building!). I'm somewhere north of 20 hours in it and loving the feel of the game. It's a lot more post-apocalyptic feeling than any of the others have managed. They set the story timeline well, put into veneer of a functioning world...and then you run into zombies in the night. Dear God!

I'm enjoying the usual exploration aspects though weight is a bigger issue than in the past since many of the junk items are now worth parts in building your empire(s), the world building (literally building up settlements and such), the voice acting (pretty damn good overall) and the fact that the power armor is collected early so the game throws bigger things at you faster. It's almost like you don't have start as a wasteland plebe like in every other game...if you can keep the resources for the power armor coming (hard at the start).

My biggest gripe so far might be that enemies level with you...so guys in plain clothes are as hard to kill as guys in armor if you visit them at different times. Not sure if that's true yet, only getting into higher levels now and ran into some strangely balanced areas. My other little gripe is that the difficulty level doesn't stick between characters so my wife and I have to switch it each time we play.

I'd recommend it to anyone that liked the previous Fallouts, no question. It really feels like Fallout++ in so many smart ways.
