GTA:IV-ever
April 28th 2008, 21:28 CEST by CheesyPoof

Talk, play, bitch, whatever.

The game is getting A+'s and 10/10 all over the place, including the tight wads at EuroGamer.

We must also strike while the iron is hot to organize any PC play sessions, 360 only, sorry Bob. And doubly sorry to PC only gamers (sorry Dum).

360 version. I will buy it tomorrow and then never play it online with you people because I'm too busy caring for my child.

I'll probably pick it up tomorrow after work, even though doing so will consign Burnout to the discard pile.

Oh yeah, and I probably won't play it online, based on previous experience.

I'm pre-ordered and paid up at GameStop, so I'll be getting it tomorrow.

I'm usually not in the multiplayer bunch, but I suspect it would be pretty fun with crappers. I hope that it's relatively easy to organize a match.

I didn't pre-order. I'll just walk into Best Buy and pick up one of the eighty billion copies they'll have stacked in a heap on the floor.

You need to watch the Gametrailers review then.  Me buying it the picosecond it arrives on the PC is pretty much a given, but seeing it in action there has really got me jonesing for it.

Droolworthy stuff.

That seals it, definitely getting it day one.  And no preorder for me, it's faster and simpler to just go to Future Shop.  This shouldn't be like Rock Band that was supply constrained.

I can't say I'll buy it tomorrow, but I'll try to get it sometime this week. And then update my 360 to point to the current router. At which point we can all get our murder and prostitution beatdowns on.

Eh, I don't know when or if I'll get around to the multiplayer. But I am getting excited about it. With Gametrailers saying you'll go long stretches without ever dying and Eurogamer saying it only takes around 12 hours to unlock the full map, it sounds like the frustration should be lessened.

I've got it preordered and paid off; since I basically work in a mall, that was the easiest way.

I'm not looking so much forward to GTAIV.

Because I haven't been watching trailers and reviews much. The self-imposed media blackout is to make the time until I get the damn game survivable, and so far I'm juuuust about scraping by without collapsing in a heap of glee.

With that said I've preordered it from some crappy place to save money and don't expect it to arrive for another week or two. But that's okay, I'm not in such a big rush to get it nownownow (due to the precautions described above). I will play it online, but probably not with any of you because you're all limited to the wrong (so wrong…) geographic locations.

I work in an office building connected to a mall by a skybridge. So I can just walk down to EB (and the food court) on my lunch break. It's nice; I take the elevator down to 2, walk down the hall, and suddenly I'm in Nordstrom's.

Attention:  After viewing the extended review video at Gametrailers I'm leaning towards buying GTA 4.

Reasons:

With the improved graphics the world finally begins to be compelling for me.  A lot of the environments they showed seemed...grounded.  Solid.

Shooting seems notably improved over previous versions.

While the narrative is clearly still quite violent, it feels like the game is less jackassishly sociopathic this time around.

Yay!

Shadarr, re: your misplaced post. I spoliered myself on the review Dum linked, and they said you'll keep your weapons after death. I think you lose them after arrest, though. Regardless, they said the game is easier and you won't be dying as much.

So in honor of Shadarr's goal of sports'ing up this thread, I found out that the Flyers are playing at home on Wednesday night, the same time I'm going to the Phillies game. Should be fun. And by fun I mean annoying until my car is actually parked. Then it should be fun.

So, do you think the Sixers can take down the Pistons?

They should show the hockey game on the big screen.  Assuming it's sold out, there should be no issue.  And then all the poor sods stuck in a baseball game will have something to watch during the 5 minute breaks between pitches.

Yeah, they decided to keep it all in one place. Might not be so bad as I believe the Vet is now a giant parking lot, but who knows. I'll just leave work earlier than I had planned.

As for the Sixers, well, if they play like they did the first half last night, sure. But they can't let Detroit get those second halves.

Yeah, I haven't been very excited about GTAIV but now that it's here I am ready to play it for a week or so. Finished No More Heroes the other night, which was a much better game than Killer7 but not quite as good as Killer7 overall.

I managed to bribe someone to get my 360 copy early last thursday (Beer and a Parma!).  I've been playing it off and on since then.  I skipped vice city and San Andreas, although I watched housemates play through most of them.  Played a heap of GTA3.

So far I'm really enjoying the game.  What I have seen of the city (still on the first island) seems really solid.  There's rubbish bins and such on the side of the road, an appropriate amount of people and cars and I haven't noticed much repetition in the buildings or textures on the buildings.  The city looks very detailed and "dense" so far, more so when walking rather than zipping by in a car.

The driving feels exactly as I remember GTA3 feeling; kind of floaty at the start, then you get used to it and fly around.

I'm playing the censored AU version.  Not sure what they have taken out really, there's a huge amount of swearing and a whole heap of violence.

I really dig the way you can turn off the story progression at any time and just run around exploring.

What do you mean "turn off the story progression"?

One of the main ways story gets pushed at you is through your mobile phone.  You can put your mobile into "sleep" mode, effectively halting the story progress.

That. Is. Awesome. My favorite part of GTA has always been finding the packages and stuff without a guide.
