Midterm WHAM, COCK IN THE ASS!!!
November 9th 2006, 12:33 CET by Jibble

Will there be even more political scandals? Will the Democrats take advantage of the wind in their sails? Will we finally see an investigation on Iraq, Diebold, Delay, Abramoff, Hastert, 9/11, or detainee torture?

Yes, no, and no. Of course, it's always fun to talk about it. What's up for grabs in your local election? Do you support any candidate in particular? Why or why not? Been a while since we had an actual factual political topic around here, and it's time to get the discussion out of the damned Kerry Wins! thread.

there is no point to having more than 2 parties. All that would do is split the swing vote, which is the majority anyway.

I predict 30-35 House pickups for the Dems, 4-6 Senate pickups, 5-7 Governorships, and I suspect Rumsfeld and Hastert are on their way out.  Let's see how things go election night!

He'll concede if he knows what's good for him. He does have Presidential aspirations, though, and recient history has shown that you'll win that position if you drag out a political contest for months on end for your own personal gain.

I still can't believe that Jefferson got the most votes in Louisiana. I know he'll probably lose in the run-off, but man. $100,000 in bribe money in your freezer and you still got voted back into office? I understand the anti-Republican sentiment in the state, but that's a bit too far to go.

Alot of Republicans are reacting to the election in a surprisingly mature way.  I was expecting everyoe to be yelling and screaming about how Pelosi was going to try to legalize sex with children and pull out of Iraq by November 10th.  Instead many seem to be taking it as sign that Bush has ruined the party and they need to return to their focus on small government and less spending.  I'm also hoping that the election causes them to love the Christian Right a little less.

In short, thanks for not being crybabies.

I think they all realize that there's no point to that kind of display. They only bother to put on the "DEMOCRATS ARE TERRAR!" mask when the elections are coming up. They know what the last two years of a lame duck presidency looks like from the other side, so they're trying to avoid a repeat.

I read an article about Rush's first day back aftr the election.  It was saying he was doing the asme thing, going on about how the GOP needed to return to being conservative, etc.  Maybe that was only one day though.

They're too busy in a back room somewhere with Rove and Cheney, going over the genius evil plan they set in motion last year to lose Congress and turn America into a dictatorship!

Karl Rove is a genius! The Republicans are going to win!

Rush is right. The Republicans need to go back to their true conservative roots if they really want to win people back. Problem is that the Democrats may beat them to it if they can use the next two years to dismantle the ridiculous overreaches of the Federal government that the 'pubs have worked so hard to put in place over the last few years.

The first 100 hours are going to be very telling. If they can lop lobbyists off the teat of floor votes and earmarks (surprising that there's no mention of changing campaign finance laws), they'll win an awful lot of favor with voters. Also, people will vote for them in droves if they raise the minimum wage, cut student loan interest rates in half, and lower prescription costs.

That really needs to be the direction they go. They could spend the next two years locked in a prosecution nightmare, or they can help the vast majority of this country that works their asses off trying to pay off their student loans and deal with rising health care costs. The latter seems better to me.

I think it's less of seeing no point in it and more of seeing it as a strategy mistake. Acting like bitter crybabies won't make 08 any easier, nor will acting like vengeful crybabies. Right now the smart move is playing it moderate while getting some potential presidential candidates out there to spin it as their parties doing.

That's kind of what I meant, None. Regardless of how we paint these guys as a bunch of children, they know what they're doing and they know what it means if they start having bitch sessions in view of the public. Bush's 180 is a good indicator of approximately how things are going to go for the next two years.

Heh. I love Bush's optimism.

"I'm open to any idea or suggestion that will help us achieve our goals of defeating the terrorists and ensuring that Iraq's democratic government succeeds."

In other words, I'm open to anything that achieves my previously stated unrealistic goals. Good luck with that, buddy.

I spent election night in a Philadelphia bar surrounded by a bunch of liberal wackos (Planned Parenthood, radical enviromentalists, etc).  Happiest bunch of hippies I've seen in a long time.  They didn't even notice that the big-screen they were watching was cutting off Wolf Blitzer's head.

I've been taking great pleasure in reading the comments at various batshit insane right-wing sites like Captain's Quarters, Little Green Footballs and National Review Online. Reactions range from "the MSM lost us this election" to "Bush not being conservative enough lost us this election" to "Howard Dean lost us this election" to "don't worry, the Democrats being incompetent will win us the next election" to "conservatism won this election so... um... yay!" to "yeah... but what's THEIR plan for victory?" to "OMG Democrats are going to surrender in Iraq and give illegal aliens amnesty and kill babies and raise taxes and exhume Reagan's corpse for a necromantic gangbang!" to "We need a new Reagan... um, how about just a new Newt?" to "Pelosi is the Antichrist" to "I don't care what happens now as long as Hillary doesn't win in '08".

It's highly enjoyable to watch.
